Art Photography

Application

Art to me is something that is created through use of imagination and skill creating something such as an object, enviroment or experience which can be shared with others. For example it could be a piece of music which makes the listener feel happy or sad or even a picture which captures the mood of a certain setting like a war or a wedding.

List of art photographers

Carol Henry is a fine art photographer who does not use a camera.

Raymond Moore was an important post-war English art photographer.

Ansel Adams was a master of fine art photography.

Robert Mapplethorpe another fine art photographer, his photos stirred controversy and would be banned from an art gallery.

Andrew Prokos specializes in skylines, cityscapes, and landscapes.

Conceptual Photography

Conceptual photography is like a movie the picture is set up to look exactly how the photographer wants it. Most of the time allot of the picture is made up using editing software on computers to get the desired look but some conceptual photos do not get edited at all and instead have the subjects of the photo set up precisely to make the final outcome of the picture what they wanted it to be.

At the Brighton Photo Biennial the photographs i had seen varied quite drasticly there was allot of great pictures there not all making sense to me but still allot of them were quite stunning. A few left me wondering what inspired the photographer at the time to take such a picture and a few left me wondering what are they aiming for. The photos taken by Stephen Gill were very inspiring and i liked the idea of putting objects on the cameras lens to give the viewer a more involved experience with what is happening in the photo.

Context

The context can vary greatly in art photography depending on the picture shown and how the photographer wants it to come across to viewers. For example some pictures at the (BPB) didnt have frames they were just hanged up on the wall letting the picture do all the talking while other pictures were pinned unto a white background complementing the pictures colours and scenery.

Techniques

There is allot of different techniques involved with art photgraphy and I saw allot of those techniques at the (BPB). As i stated above the technique where Stepehn Gill placed objects on the camera lens to give the picture a more involving experience. Or the pictures which made heavy use of slow shutter speeds making a night time picture appear asif it was taken during daylight. Also another use of the slow shutter speed was where there was a bright light which went across the picture from a young boy who they must of told to run across the picture and stop at a certain position which created that certain effect. Also another technique used was there was a room which was presented in the form of a cabin of an airplane which had pictures on the wall of airplanes cabins which created a nice effect for the viewers.

Introduction To Fashion Photography

Application
Fashion photography is a genre of photography devoted to displaying clothing and other fashion items. The first fashion model was said to be Virginia Oldoini who appeared in a book by Adolphe Braun which contained 288 photographs of Virginia in her official court garb. In the 20th century fashion photography took a huge leap forward thanks to halftone printing allowing fashion photographs to be featured in magazines. One of the first appearence's of fashion photography in a magazine was the french magazine La Mode Pratique.
